The word of God serves as a reliable source of truth regarding our identity and the actions we are called to take. Through deep contemplation spanning three decades, I have come to understand that the living word introduces us to the divine being who speaks it. The portrayal of this being, as the second person of the Trinity, offers insights into the nature of the Godhead. Consequently, encountering Him through His revelations can be likened to perceiving a somewhat obscured reflection in a mirror. By means of His spirit, this introduction allows us to establish a genuine connection with this divine being. It is comparable to meeting a stranger for the first time and subsequently spending time with them, gradually becoming acquaintances. As we journey through life together, we develop an intuitive sense of their inner thoughts and emotions. We become intimately familiar with their strengths, weaknesses, preferences, and aversions, much like the profound understanding that comes with a marital relationship. We can discern when they are facing challenges or exuding confidence, comprehend their fears and most guarded secrets, and comprehend what motivates them. Similarly, as we mature in our communication with God, guided by His word, we learn to acquaint ourselves with His disposition and discern the prayers that are pleasing to Him.
Although we may not physically see Him, we have a deep understanding of His presence as if we were able to see Him. When we communicate with Him according to His will, He begins to reveal Himself to us. Through this revelation, we come to understand that He resides within us and is constantly with us through His Spirit. He becomes our closest and most valued companion, as He affectionately refers to us and extends an inward call to us. Therefore, when we engage with Him, we experience profound peace, as He manifests Himself to us in a way that is familiar through His revelation. We recognize Him as everything we need in this life, and it is not a matter of waiting to physically see Him, but rather being able to perceive Him through a metaphorical dark glass. This recognition brings us complete assurance in our relationship with Him.
