Legalism can manifest itself in various specific forms. There are numerous opinions and so-called "experts" that limit our understanding of what is true and what is false. Any knowledge I acquire must be examined in the light of God's word and through prayer. Furthermore, doctrinal systems help us discern temporary advice from the gospel, which leads to meaningful changes in our actions rather than just superficial transformations. It seems that legalists are always focused on some form of gospel and fail to appreciate the importance of genuine and unwavering obedience, such as the reluctance to take the necessary steps or the lack of wisdom to reject misguided advice. Legalists tend to guide those who are idle or lack theological knowledge. They offer shortcuts and temporary solutions that lead us down misguided paths, preventing us from experiencing true repentance or undergoing thorough examination. Legalists mistakenly view this delicate process as impractical and theoretical. While they may assist in addressing practical issues, they lack a genuine desire to seek God's wisdom, to have a devoted heart shaped by His word, or to explore the doctrinal aspects of the human soul. When someone in a state of despair cries out to God for His loving and merciful intervention, a legalist may dismiss it as an emotional release or a futile waste of time. If a person spends days in prayer, experiencing darkness and receiving no immediate relief, legalists may suggest practical remedies as a temporary solution, disregarding the fact that sincere prayer has the power to bring about lasting change, while practical remedies only provide temporary relief until God answers through prayer. It is more important to rely on the effective means that God has revealed to us rather than constantly pursuing the next right thing. Christ has already accomplished something truly satisfying – He desires to become our righteousness, and this is a deliberate and significant process.
