The concept of divine justice suggests that God is obligated to seek retribution against those who break His laws. If we were to believe that God simply established rules for humanity to adhere to, He would be reduced to a passive observer, constantly reminding people of their transgressions. This would imply that even God himself is subject to these rules. However, it is important to recognize that God is actually revealing His own nature through the act of writing these rules. Therefore, the standard of rule-keeping is not as straightforward as it may seem to humans. In fact, God perceives more violations of these rules than we are able to comprehend. Consequently, when we discuss God's personal response to those who break His laws, it is a deeply unsettling experience that surpasses our capacity to endure. God's understanding of the truth of this world exceeds what He can fully convey to us.

We often overlook the depth of personal connection we have with God and how our spiritual qualities influence our reactions to the evil in the world. What may seem like a rational response to God's standards can actually manifest as a power that transcends our understanding and goes beyond the physical realm. When we speak of God's holiness, it is like being completely enveloped in His presence. His holiness is a force more potent than anything we could imagine, characterized by a love that surpasses our comprehension and a righteous anger towards sin that far exceeds our own indignation. This concept transcends mere legalistic adherence and delves into something much deeper.

How is it possible for a God who portrays His holiness through all aspects of His being to protect us from the full consequences of our actions? How can He humble Himself to the extent of truly identifying with individuals who not only transgress His laws but also fail to attain the attributes required by God? He must conform to His own standards in every way, so that our imperfect actions align perfectly with His divine order and ultimately bring about the renewal of all things. He not only needs to forgive our sins but also disregard them within our relationship, creating something good within us that originates from a power beyond ourselves, prompting us to place our trust in it. This is the challenge involved in understanding how God operates in this world. Our natural inclinations and responses to our circumstances are contrary to the way God works through us. For God to be truly holy, He must establish an intimate relationship with us, enabling His accomplishments within us to go beyond our comprehension. It is in this pursuit that we encounter genuine glory and encounter marvels that surpass our imagination. Our longing exceeds our capacity to fulfill it.
