The concept of self-control is often associated with resisting our desires and denying ourselves certain pleasures. However, it is important to recognize that self-control can also have positive implications. If we solely focus on abstaining from certain actions, we will ultimately lead an unhappy life. True self-control involves finding a balance between enjoying the things that have been sanctified by God. It is not merely a restrictive mindset; rather, it involves appreciating these things and using them to bring glory to God. Each of us has a unique way of glorifying God, and we have different tasks and responsibilities. It is through these things that we can serve and support others. If we find ourselves miserable in our interactions with others, no amount of self-control will bring about harmony and fulfillment.if we believe that we have the ability to choose between two options without any preference or inclination beforehand, then that choice lacks true significance. In reality, we will inevitably exert control over others due to practical necessity. I consider this to be an illustration of the law of contradiction. We are deceived into thinking we have control over our choices. However, if we recognize that our control is dependent on what brings us the most joy through our thoughts, we will understand that self-control arises from a preexisting desire. Self-control entails selecting the good that brings us the greatest satisfaction and finding freedom in abstaining from choosing what is bad with the help of grace.
