Jesus was discussing the inherent impracticality of attaining complete self-denial, to which Peter displayed astute judgment by asserting that there were no alternative options available. However, it is important to note that Peter's response did not indicate a relinquishment of his self-assurance, but rather conveyed a somewhat excessively confident declaration. The underlying concept is that salvation is not intended to evoke a constant state of apprehension regarding our own salvation. It seems contradictory for Jesus to reproach the Pharisees by likening them to dogs, only to later criticize His own disciples. The gospel is not a source of trepidation, but rather a proclamation of positive tidings.I have developed numerous doctrinal inquiries regarding the prevailing position of American Christianity, resulting in my gradual detachment from the mainstream. Unfortunately, I must conclude this train of thought for now, but I shall resume it at a later time. If the characteristic of self denial is present in a person who believes in a higher power, it is only logical for that individual to consistently practice self denial. It is evident that denying oneself is not a natural inclination for those who do not have a spiritual connection. However, due to our comprehension of the significant role self denial plays in our lives, it is apparent that we possess a deeper understanding of our own beings. On this facet of self-denial, it is bestowed upon us as a precious offering. Its essence lies in emancipating us from our own selves. In the realm of self-denial, we relinquish ownership of our beings. We are absolved from the burden of adhering to the law and taking responsibility for our own transgressions. Our liberation from the law stems from our detachment from ourselves. Instead of evoking fear, self-denial should foster a profound sense of belonging to Christ and grant us access to the full spectrum of His divine blessings. If I recognize that I am the owner of my own being, then it is my utmost responsibility to ensure my own redemption. However, the entirety of my salvation is bestowed upon me through divine benevolence. The pinnacle of this divine provision is that I am fully aware that I am incapable of saving myself due to my self-abnegation. Consequently, I have the ability to surrender all of my challenges and transgressions, including my own sinful nature, to the guidance and authority of Christ, as I am unequivocally His possession.
