31 6 I hate those who worship worthless idols; I trust in God.“Upon the arrival of freedom, our former convictions were forever banished by our intimate tie to the demise and rebirth of Christ. The sacred scriptures illuminate our unique identity separate from Christ, confirming that we were spiritually rejuvenated to abandon our attachment to outdated customs by means of a heavenly malediction. Though we may remain vulnerable to the taint of immorality, we were branded as "idolaters," yet divine decree insists that our eventual demise acts as a shield from damnation and an irreversible hex. This rightfully decreed demise acts as a harbinger, warding off misdeeds. Hence, we stand tall in our righteousness, purified. The intricate trials we frequently confront within the realm of our corrupted essence demand a scrupulous utilization of the prevailing statutes, eradicating their inherent impotence with precision. The wicked curses, steeped in moral disdain, no longer hold sway over our souls, for they fail to entice us towards immoral deeds. The psalmist, with purposeful intent, echoes the initial decree, highlighting the everlasting punishment that befalls those who venerate false deities. Skillfully wielding these curses, the psalmist unleashes potent divine retribution, quelling all dissenting voices with great efficacy.Yet, behold, we are not bound by the chains of a legal code deemed as an omnipotent decree. Such perceptions have undergone a metamorphosis. In this present epoch, should we intertwine idolatry with the captivating allure of our yearnings, we transgress by reducing our distinct essence to a plane of disgrace, which the benevolent Christ liberates us from without delay.31 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you have seen my suffering and you have known the anguish of my soul. 8 You have not delivered me into the hand of my enemies, but have set my feet in a spacious place.“God's gaze is not fixed on the morality of our desires, but on deciphering the profound distinction between the inclination towards subservience, reminiscent of the past, and the inclination towards liberty and expansiveness, emblematic of the present. This pivotal point is accentuated by the undeniable truth that those without faith exploit these possibilities in a deliberate effort to hinder our progress, as God vehemently opposes the worship of false gods and the resulting eternal damnation. To attain true freedom within the Christian realm, we must relinquish our personal desires, which are vehemently opposed and despised by our Christian society, rather than futilely attempting to escape their grasp. In the realms where faith is absent, the cruel chains of slavery cast a dark shadow, posing a grave danger to souls devoted to their gospel creed. The sacred covenant, adorned with eloquent words, exudes a spirit of reverence and peace. It stands as a powerful shield, banishing any lingering guilt and safeguarding believers from the allure of false deities. In a realm defined by deep animosity and marred by brutal aggression, the Son in question prevailed over the trials of bondage and selflessly bestowed on us the opportunity to wholeheartedly embrace and treasure the extraordinary facets of existence, all with the purpose of exalting the Father.
