It is important to note that God is not obligated to provide salvation for sinners. Rather, His faithfulness is demonstrated through His willingness and ability to do so. This is significant in understanding the concept of the covenant, which is unilateral and not contingent on human action or understanding. In other words, the covenant was decided by God before the world was created and is not reliant on our gradual learning about it. The covenant is an agreement between God and His people that He will always be faithful to them and love them. This covenant ensures that God will receive all the glory for His faithfulness and love. The covenant theology of salvation is based on the idea that God has made certain promises to saints, and that our salvation lies by trusting in God to keep those promises, rather than in our own abilities or experiences. This theology emphasizes the divine nature of God and His role as the ultimate source of our salvation. The idea of the Trinity agreeing on the salvation of the elect before the foundation of the world is also central to this theology, and underscores the idea salvation is not based on the New Covenant, but on God's grace alone. These eternal realities cannot be defined by human standards, as we cannot determine how salvation should occur in this world. All aspects of salvation were ordained by God before man chose to deny His existence in the garden. God has the power to decree whatever comes to pass, and He has decided that He will not share His glory with anyone – not even with those who are intrinsically righteous. As a result of one man’s sin, God has imputed sin to the entire human race, meaning that salvation cannot be earned or achieved by us – it must be given to us by God.It is clear that God has complete authority over humanity, as He has said that people will be subject to His anger for eternity. If God has the freedom to show His love to people, then He also has the freedom to show His power through judging them. If God displays His wrath, it is because it is in accordance with His just recompense; His glory being displayed through His eternal justice. This is why we marvel at how God can be gracious to one sinner, even as we exalt His reasons for being a God of justice. It is beyond human reasoning why God would make a man acceptable in His eyes by imputing a foreign righteousness to his account and a declaration not due to his intrinsic qualities but due to his identity. Salvation is God displaying His eternal justice and love for reasons that we cannot understand when we think of why we have been chosen. His choice of us is far beyond our understanding of what is just. When we try to understand why God has chosen to save us, we can never fully comprehend His reasons because they are based in eternal justice and love, concepts that are far beyond our human understanding.
