God's love is radical because it is so powerful and all-encompassing. It is almost unimaginable for us mortals to comprehend the full extent of His love. His love is so strong that it is almost like being too close to the sun – it is so bright and intense that it is difficult to look at directly. However, this is also what makes His love so special and unique. We can never fully understand or appreciate God's love, but that does not mean that He does not love us. The problem is not that God cannot or does not love us – the problem is that we cannot fully understand or comprehend His love. This is why our lack of awareness of our own humanity and weakness can be a source of blindness to us. First, because we do not have the vision of all of the causes of our circumstances. We do not see all of the learning involved to bring us into this world, or the genetic structures that hold us to a certain pattern of growth. Nor do we see the individual traits that give us a spiritual form. But God sees us in the totality of our being, both as human, physical, and spiritual. So He not only teaches us the way, but also what we need to know about ourselves in the individual way we are to take. We are not automatons. This is why the Psalmist comes to God and describes his own weakness in relation to God's absolute sovereignty. He says that God is angry with him as a way of describing his own suffering. For example, in the "How long, Oh Lord, will you forget me?" Psalm. Does God actually forget His children? If the answer was yes, that would be heresy. No, the Psalmist is describing his inward pain as a human being. We must relate to God as He is, not as we think He is. He not only communicates with us, but He designs our hearts in order to receive all that we are to ask or think. He designs us through a life of circumstances and gifts. We are, in a sense, in God who sees every molecule. The Psalmist shows humility when he comes to God, relating his own mortality and weakness to God. He does this because he knows that God is the only one who can help him. This shows that it is important to think and feel in a natural way, because it shows our ability to depend on God in light of person to person. The Psalmist, confronted with his own mortality, responds by weeping and pleading because he knows that only God can help him. Each individual has been graced with a love of self from God. This does not mean that one should be egotistical, but rather that we should be attuned to understanding life as a form of communication. In other words, we can only truly know ourselves through the revelation of the word of God. This new understanding allows us to see ourselves in a new light. The purpose of God's revelation of Himself to us is not simply to provide us with information about Himself but also to restore us to our original position of enjoying all that He has made us for. This can only happen if we allow love to be a part of who we are. God doesn't take over our faculties when we let Him in; He draws us in by revealing the true nature of things as He is in His glory. When we see Him this way, our eyes are full of the light of His glory, and we experience the beatific vision - the holistic revelation of God.This is why the psalmist says that his eyes fail him. He has lost that ability to see the face of God. This is described in other Psalms as being raised out of oneself to the heights of focus on the light of His glory. Being lifted up to a high mountain is a related experience in human terms. The vision is all-encompassing or, as it is sometimes described, having our feet on the rock. We are secure and steady with a vision that is all-encompassing and eternal; in other words, we do not place our trust in the words of man alone. When we lose sight of our goals, we can become discouraged and lose heart. Our vision allows us to see the importance of our own purposes, and when we lose sight of that, we can feel like we're losing our way. The Psalmist is weeping because his enemies have hurt him in some way, and he is reminded of his own mortality. This is why it is so important to maintain our vision and our sense of purpose, because without them, we can feel lost and directionless.
