So the question is, if we are to be genuine before God because we have the freedom to choose for ourselves, then how can we reconcile the difference between the righteous questions and the faithless questions? You see, all throughout the scriptures, God teaches us by asking questions. Questions help us to expand our knowledge of the scripture. Force us to think about the implications of our actions and whether we are living up to our potential. It may seem contradictory that, in the Psalms, God sometimes asks questions as a way of teaching His people, while also commanding them not to question Him. However, this can be explained by the fact that, when we question God, we are only doing so out of our own limited understanding. We are not directly accusing Him of anything, but simply insinuating that we do not fully understand the situation. The prophet or king will form the Psalm in such a way that in his approach to God he comes with the intention of arguing on behalf of himself and the righteous. This is why I do not like to take a doctrine out of the Psalms and try to prove that it is part of a process by which we approach God. Rather, the Psalms teach that our Father in giving us communication as His children lowers Himself by seeing us as weak. In other words, we see ourselves as we see how He wishes to hear us in our experience. The ability to communicate with God is what defines our success, because we are already righteous and can approach Him boldly. We can present our case to Him and He will listen, because He has already accepted us. However, we still have to struggle and experience hardship in this life. The reality of this relationship is that we can communicate with God and He will hear us, because He has already made us complete. The salvation that God has given us is not yet a reality in our lives, and if we do not work with God to make it a reality, we will suffer greatly. So we come to Him on the basis of His work that we believe by faith, and in desiring the gift of salvation, we are delivered unto a new ability. We grow in our fellowship with Him as we become more like what He gifted us to be.
