I attended community college in the early 1980s and took a social studies course on critical theory. I found the class to be very dangerous because it challenged my previous understanding of relationships between people. I came to believe that the class was responsible for a lot of the changes that had occurred in communication patterns between people. 25 years later, I still believe that this philosophy – that relationships can be understood through scientific observation and data – is deeply ingrained in our social structure. The Christian community has been striving to integrate various concepts and perspectives from different worldviews. However, these ideas are at odds with what the Bible says about how we are supposed to interact with God. Our understanding of a God-centered view of the world necessitates that we dispel any imaginations or thoughts that contradict what we know about God from a biblical perspective. This is because there are only two ways to reason in the universe: either through the language of worship to God, or through the language of rebellion against God. In our modern day conflict, there are two direct opposing voices, each trying to drown out the other. This is seen in statements from repetitive teaching. When something is repeated over and over again, it becomes the reality of that culture. There are some who argue that the epistemological patterns of thinking found in scripture are no longer tenable in deception of modern scientific discoveries. This language of scientific study is in direct opposition to the language of a Theo-centric universe. It is important to critically examine the reasons for these claims in order to better understand what is being accepted as a way to think and behave. The Bible is the highest authority for all matters of life. We compare the cultural norms that are the language of society, both from the spoken words and how a person views the world, to the direct statements of the Bible. In other words, there are two distinct worldviews: the Biblical worldview and the godless worldview. This is why the Bible is the only authoritative source for matters of life, because it reflects the way we think of the world. Language is a tool we use to construct our worldview, and wisdom that comes from a biblical worldview is true wisdom. We need to get used to thinking in terms of conflict. The world is not a place where two equally powerful sets of ideas compete. We are not creating something new or more complicated than what is already written in scripture. The world is a place where we reform by constantly engaging with conflicting ideas. We are reformation thinkers. This means that we measure every word against the standards of our responsible action. We are in conflict with the ideas that have been repeated over the last few generations that come from scientific theory. We constantly engage with these conflicting ideas in order to reform the world.
