The idea that God is the ruler of the universe is supported by the fact that He is the same God throughout all generations. His unchanging nature is contrasted with the passage of time, with each generation being represented by the righteous fathers. This is what is known as reformation theology, which holds that we should always be reforming our beliefs to align with those of the fathers who have gone before us. They have proclaimed the glory of God and His right to rule over His people unto all eternity. God has sovereignty over the earth and its inhabitants because He alone determines the success or failure of entire generations. He has shown His personal concern for His covenant people by contrast with the nations. He has proven this by working through His covenant people to destroy whole nations. In destroying whole nations, God has determined the quality and life span of entire generations. God thus shows that He will not be mocked by bringing judgement from one generation to another. He proves that He is faithful by enduring through all generations, thus demonstrating His willingness and ability to protect His covenant people through the present generation. To fully understand God, we must look beyond our immediate world and circumstance and view Him in the context of His entire existence, as He has been from the beginning of time and remains the same God as one generation passes and another comes. God demonstrates His power to bring down one generation and raise up another by judging whole generations according to the sins that plague them. His glory is eternal and sustains the universe, shining out into all eternity. Just as the beauty of His glory shines out, so too His power to enact His judgements over generations is eternal. Men are confounded in their sins when they see the glory of God shining down upon them. The light of the glory of God is so blinding that it confounds the minds of men, generation after generation. God proves His faithfulness by showing Himself to be all-glorious in His power to protect His covenant people from generation to generation. Have you seen the light of the glory of God? His covenant people are ruled by Him, with His feet placed on the earth as a footstool. He leaves His sandals in His church.God protects His church from the evil that comes from sinning generation after generation. We are given a supernatural communication from Heaven that allows us to see God's glory shining down through the ages. Throughout all eternity, the light in Jesus Christ's face will shine on us. This great and awesome light gives us the power to persevere through the judgements of the present generation. This glory (light of God's presence) connects us to God's eternal view, in which He sees all generations as present. He proves Himself faithful by shining the light of His glory on us, which is a timeless experience that God is ruling in the present, just as He has ruled in past generations. We are changed from one glory (light of God's presence) to another.
