One of the issues I see with the current understanding of the law is that there is a lack of focus on the fear of God as a motivation. I believe we are too focused on the practical applications of the law, and not enough on the metaphysical standards set by the law. This disconnection from the heart of the law leads to a focus on outward behavior, instead of on the internal motivation for good behavior. The Bible, as the law of God, warns us not to be shaped by the mindset of the world. When we do not attempt to compare what we are being taught with what the Bible says, we are being molded into a certain way of thinking. This way of thinking can be deceptive, as it does not take into account the Bible's perspective. We should instead think after God, and our communication will be different - not only in the way we talk about God, but in the way we describe the standards. This is a universe of two opposing world views. There is a fundamental opposition between these two ways of thinking. We do not live in a world where we can take the good elements of the wrong view and accept it as a good way. We live in a world of opposition, not only to the Christian way of thinking, but also to the society in which we have common ground. Because there is only one true image of the real man, and all other images that are painted about the society represented by that man are against the laws of God.This is why we cannot approach God with a sense of morality that is based on a scale of good and bad. Because we, as sinful humans, can only ever come to God as representatives of sinful mankind. We come as an image in comparison to the real man – Jesus Christ. And when God looks at us, He sees His Son and He gives us something else to do that will be impossible for us. But all men are judged by the same standard – that of the self-righteous man – because every idol thought is anti-social and anti-God. Men are born into a universe that is opposed to a standard of perfect justice, honor, power, and strength. Because men naturally want to create their own power and honor, they devise their own ways to achieve these goals. This can sometimes result in a generation of tower builders who think they are on the same level as God. However, a new generation always comes along that is even more evil and they continue to build on the backs of the poor and oppressed. Because God is the only one who is worthy of honor, as there are no other gods who are equal to him. The problem with humans are not that they reform their outward behavior, but that they form a world in which God is forgotten, and eventually try to do away with him. You can't serve both God and Mammon.
