He is trying to teach us that sin is a choice and it is wrong to make idols.  The natural man thinks that God's Law does not apply to him.  God and civilized people do not like it when people do violence to them.

 The psalmist is very worried about the sins of his community. He fears that because of sin, the community will be taken over by the heathen.  People who are not Christians say that what God has told us is not true.  He does a lot of stuff that hurts God and people.

 The natural man changes the laws that God has given to give himself more freedom, but this goes against God's will.  He does a lot of bad things to his family and to the people who live around him.

May his days be less. Are the psalmists carefully teaching sin and is the local culture inextricably linked to simply creating pagan idols.

God is telling people to stop making false gods because it leads to sin.  The natural thing that people do is to change the rules of the game so they can win.  He does a lot of violence to God and his neighbor.

 He becomes more and more powerful as he is able to recruit more people who agree with his ideas.  In his success, he tries to eliminate God from the culture.

The natural man redefines Gods Law. He undoubtedly does considerable violence to God and civilized neighbor. He establishes himself as his own god, aggressively recruiting many political followers as he typically moves up the social ladder in the violent culture. In his success, establish forgotten gods, wrecks the lives of his followers and tries to eliminate God from the culture. This godless man curses himself.
