I agree that the letters were written for a particular church that was already reconciled. If we take just one word as the world, we take it out of the context to which the apostle was directed, then we can give it any meaning. The words of the will have different definitions and should be interpreted according to the context. The apostle might say, in relation to the benefit of the world, all people, all with some different approaches. One is the gospel was passed on from the nation of Israel to every corner of the earth. So he can distinguish between the gospel that is focused on one nation in the Old Testament and then spread beyond that nation. (which I hold onto) Or I could say that Christ's death had the potential to save the whole world, but he designed it for his elect. (I do not hold this position.). Or it could say the whole world and refer to all the people in the world, but this would be inconsistent with the context as all of the prepositions used in speaking of the death of Christ are in the personal pronouns of the elect in. Stand the different churches. His very simple reconciliation is a word that speaks of the type of relationship a Christian has with Christ. If a person does not know Christ, he has no relationship with him and is therefore not reconciled to Christ.
