I've changed my perspective on how God's righteousness is described and the role we play with showing His righteousness. I know a few Jewish Christians who describe the world somewhat differently from what the grace teachings teach me. And perhaps it is related to my agreement with Kabbalah that the universe is the expression of the Word of God which unites all things in the correct use of the epistemology of the word.
This has changed my view of the fear of God as taught in the context of the current Reformed tradition. When I got to know these friends, I realized that they see God as a source of unity and not as a God who moves creation by force. I have come to believe that a God who uses violence is one who uses negative fear on his own children.
I
don't think the biblical description of fear implies a battle with a
God who uses violence and has a clear understanding of whom God is. I believe the Bible distinguishes how power is used in the same way as darkness and light. Those under the limitations of a fearful God are unaware of the danger, while those in the light see fear as a necessary weapon that compels them to be encouraged to seek salvation and not have the potential to deal with Knowing that God's love is to be judged is balanced with His perilous search for His strength. I don't see how to understand salvation in the biblical context and see fear as our judgment because it pleases God to honor himself. It's not biblical.
You will never see me declare God's judgment as His freedom to act anyway. He is free to act.But God acts according to his attributes. Some people see God as love and hate. I heard that God was taught to be both at the same time. In this way, those who know are the object of God's full love and hate. His love and those who are blind to his love. But that's not biblical. The point of salvation is to know that we are loved by being protected from his anger or hatred. If we were blind to salvation, that in itself is hate. But when we understand that we are saved, we have no advantage in seeking our salvation by being hated. Salvation is not for God but for us. The fact that it's a gift is because it's free.If God acted to force us to seek salvation, it would not be free. The whole reason it's free is that we assume that God doesn't see us in that salvation is an addition or a subtraction. But it's always attractive because it's free, and when one aspires to be saved from one glory to another, one avoids God as an enemy.
