The old testament saints enjoyed the same salvation. The Psalmist teaches salvation is being adopted into the family of saints whose Father is the Judge. He promises to forget our sin. He removes our sins as far as the east is from the west. Why does the prophet seem to teach Old Testament salvation is distinct from New? If God overlooked sin, would He be unjust? A pragmatic God would alter the holy standard of law. He would not pronounce death to the specific violation what the law undoubtedly requires. The truth is if wicked man could comply with the stringent standard of law, has the ability to sufficiently advance beyond the reasonable limits of his own corruption. If man could go beyond the necessary limits, he could accurately determine an independent choice. The truth is man carefully chooses because God graciously allows and prevents. God must choose all mans choices. There is ne'er a conscious choice made in the created world of a sovereign God that does not result in blessing or cursing. But simultaneously God made us like Himself to reasonably determine graciously according to law, covenants, curses, decrees, statutes and promises. We choose according to our accurate knowledge. Since the Old Testament saints undoubtedly suffered the incomplete scripture, they lacked comprehensive understanding. But the New Testament saints are also corrupted and unable to choose independently. Therefore, God undoubtedly had to atone for the sins of youthful ignorance in the Old Testament. We can be sure God carefully marks every personal thought. He does not overlook the most minor detail in the complex history of the world. God is always justified in atoning for sin in Himself and justly punishing the sin of the wicked accordingly. He decreed all necessary things to work out according to blessing and cursing.
