Ps 35 26 May all who gloat over my distress
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who exalt themselves over me
be clothed with shame and disgrace.
27 May those who delight in my vindication
shout for joy and gladness;
may they always say, "The LORD be exalted,
who delights in the well-being of his servant."
28 My tongue will speak of your righteousness
and of your praises all day long."
The Psalmist is teaching something that we must accept. We must submit to all scripture. Every word. This pronouncement is teaching us that a saint has been legally declared innocent. We could say there is only one Person who could pray this without the charge of hypocrisy. Only Christ could be worthy of judging his accusers.
Only Christ is worthy of being blessed by all men. Because He is the only one who acted perfectly in doing the Fathers will. He is the only one worthy of cursing those who do not have His best interest. But the problem is that this is David making this pronouncement. This is someone who does not deserve absolute blessing and other people having his best interest all the time.
You see the problem . We have two different standards of the value of righteousness but both require the same treatment from other people. Now how in the world can we honestly treat a sinner like we are required to love Christ? The only honest answer is that there is only one righteous standard.And that standard for Christ in receiving blame and abuse in desiring to be treated according to His standard of goodness is the same desire that is given to a man. Now think of this.
How can I demand that others treat me like Christ if I am blame worthy? Because the Psalmist is arguing that the righteousness of Christ has been imputed to us. But what good is the righteousness if there is not an equal price? In other words if I said that I was as righteous as Christ but I was treated like a sinner then what good is that righteousness? Its all talk. On the street we say that if you sell something that you claim is new but it has been used then we say that the product does not equal the same price. Why is it in the christian we can play with the values and still think that we are being honest? In other words people on the street use the language more truthful than us. This is the whole point. Its personal not according to the price of man. Its what every God created saint desires.
We must understand that our desires are united with Gods desires. Not in the future, or half in this life and fully implemented in the eternity. No we already deserve what Christ has obtained. Because the consequences of not being treated like Christ is death. This is what he is saying. Its so plain that you must willfully reject it.
