Ps 145 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations"
The Psalmist calls Elohim his King. He is the God who creates all things and upholds all things. This is the most interesting Psalm of any because it does not have any descriptions or complaints of human struggles. It does not describe the struggle with any of his enemies. It is a Psalm that describes Gods covenant with His elect that goes on through all generations with no equal power to oppose it. It is a Psalm that describes the height of our faith in which we experience our salvation as God coming to us. We have silenced our anger and our desire to share in Gods glory. This Psalm is the focus of how we should live. The other complaints and the struggle with sin should not be our focus.
A lot of people teach that the OT describes a nation that is governed as a Theocracy. But the law in the OT was written to govern Israel. So Israel had a written constitution and not a direct relationship with God like Moses had. Even the ceremonials laws were not divine fiats. All of that system was fulfilled in Christ. The forgiveness of sins was already obtained by the coming of Christ. Salvation has always been by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. They had the same relationship to the law that we do. They had problems using the law for their control.
We must understand that this description of Gods eternal kingdom is a vision of the real life of real Israelite within the real walls of Jerusalem. The ot kingdom was not some eternal kingdom that was ruled by a God who did not act as a mediator in the work of Christ that was going backwards. In fact the law that established Israel as a nation was gifted to them in the covenant of God that was present in the fire and the cloud. We must understand that all kingdoms are united in the individual, corporate and national. So the Palmist is describing Gods absolute rule and the safety that the people enjoyed within the walls. In other words Gods law is pronounced loud and clear to all nations through the reign David.
So we are looking at the description of the city in which Gods pronouncements rule over the people and the nations! All of the description of God acting on behalf of the people in defending them and providing them with daily gifts, ruling over the nations from within the safety of His kingdom and upholding His law by bringing the curses together with His blessing is the desire of all people in all nations through all generations. This is why the Psalms create the kingdoms in which God rules over all nations!
