Psalm 34 I will extol the Lord at all times; his  praise will always be on my lips."The Psalmist is teaching that we must always look away from ourselves to the Lord. We must always use the law, covenants curses, promises, decrees and statutes to focus on Him in a small circumspect way. The Lord loves to hear from us and is ready to meet our need
But He wants us to be focused on Him with expectancy. We must learn to be disciplined in constant prayer.

1Psa 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears."  He is teaching that we are always in need of deliverance from ourselves and the dangers in this world. We are very blind because we trust too much in our own abilities. We must learn to confide in Jehovah for everything.

Psa 34:5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame". If we disciplined ourselves God will build a protective refuge by illuminating the traps that we must avoid and provide a safe refuge so that we avoid being shameful. When we focus on meditation we developed a quiet and gentle nature.

Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." We do not only face dangers from the world but we are caught in a spiritual battle. We face dangers from the realms of spiritual enemies. The Psalmist ask the Angel of the Lord to defend him. The devil wants us to suffer under the power of the curses. We speak the Psalms and be protected from the fatal wound of the Devil 2Sa 19:32 Now Barzillai was a very old man, eighty years of age. He had provided for the king during his stay in Mahanaim, for he was a very wealthy man." Maha-naim -two camps of Jacobs vision ,afterword to be noted in David's history.

Psa 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Most of us read over the verses and seldom meditate on a verse. The Psalmist feeds himself by chewing on each verse.  He learns by constantly repeating the verse to find more interest than just an understanding of the axioms. He learns to get a spiritual sense. It is an experience. He experiences a flow of life that is fulfilling and pleasing to his senses. This constant taste of the word grows into a longing for more of God. He finds himself going over and over the verses until he is animated with the life of God.

In my personal experience with meditation over 40 years I have never felt bored. I've repeated the Psalms millions of times. I have learned to look at everything in my life through them. I usually meditate on two verses and then after 5minutes I grow warm and get a sense of pleasure and satisfaction.  We I go through a trial they cut through my emotions. There is no middle ground.  I've been so drawn away at times in my life that I ask Him to stop this flow of pleasure.  At times when I am rest He will talk to me in my thoughts about a solution toy problems.  Now I depend upon this talk. I believe this is what the Psalmist teach about being counseled.  You see the word leads to the Person. These words are always spoken words. We are hearing God speak in His word. He accompanies His word by drawing near. We can pray the Psalms and sense there is another Person in the room.  Oh taste and see !
